"IT"s not imaginary," Ma Zhenchuan, director of the security command of the Beijing Games, said recently about the threat of terrorism at the 2008 Olympics.
The Games are set to kick off in about two weeks. While the public are trying to guess whether Liu Xiang or Dayron Robles of Cuba will win the men"s 110-meter hurdles, security officials are on the lookout for terrorist plots.
Security and information officials from more than 80 countries have been collaborating with their Chinese counterparts to counter possible terrorist threats, Olympic security official Kou Bo told Beijing Daily.
These units are trying to prevent terrorists from launching biological, chemical, nuclear or radioactive attacks and bombings. They receive the latest weapons and training.

The Snow Wolf Commando Unit, the special armed police corps of China, is an elite unit mainly in charge of security for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It was created in December 2002, and it made its public debut in 2006. Dubbed "the Games" guardian", Snow Wolf focuses on countering kidnapping, terror attacks and bombings in the central Olympic region.
The overall kit for every commando is valued at about 300,000 yuan. The kit resembles those of Hong Kong"s Special Duty Unit (nicknamed "Flying Tigers") and the Greek counter-terrorist unit for the Athens Games.
